Another Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day! If my math is correct, we've had 43 Valentine's Days together. Half of them were in the company of barns full of pigs. We've been valuing our time together more now that we both are at or near the 70 year mark. What better place to celebrate than at Pastry Peddler in Millbrook?

Oh! That Green Eggs & Swiss Biscuit was delicious!

It being Valentine's Day was our excuse to eat things that are not necessarily good for us so we took a Butter Tart Square, sliced in two, for a treat at home

We wore icers on the trail and were very glad we did. But, no mittens! Feb. 14 and no mittens.

It looks like a lot of fun was had on the pond this winter. And, do you see the skating "oval" around the rink? What fun! Small town fun in wintery Ontario.

A small number of Canada Geese were still around.

We took the Medd's Mountain (which really isn't much of a mountain) trail. We met two men along the way and got to know them. Why? They were hiking the loop so fast that we passed them three times! They do three loops whenever they get out. They live next door to each other and each encourages the other to get out and hike even though they are a generation apart in age. Maybe two.

Today's sponsor is the sound of water trickling. There's the stream below. Can you hear it?

More reasons to be glad we were wearing icers.

The yellow birches were looking particularly snappy in the sunlight this morning.

Interesting trails in the woods are rarely smooth.

But, when there is a difficult "up", sometimes you are rewarded with a smooth "down".

Beyond those trees you can see a huge new subdivision. I chose not to include it. I want to believe that Millbrook is still a sleepy little town with nice trails and good butter tart squares.

And, back at home, Ted shared his heart's sentiments.

There is a lot of truth for us in the lyrics of this song:

If we were vampires and death was a joke

We'd go out on the sidewalk and smoke

Laugh at all the lovers and their plans

I wouldn't feel the need to hold your hand

Maybe time running out is a gift

I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift

And give you every second I can find

And hope it isn't me who's left behind

It's knowing that this can't go on forever

Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone

Maybe we'll get forty years together

But one day I'll be gone

Or one day you'll be gone
