September - the End is in Sight

I have been winging it - nothing new - in the garden this year. I thought that the zucchinis would be finished in the greenhouse by now, but they are still going strong. So, where to put the hundred? Mesclun mix seedlings?

I found a couple of blank spots in the vegetable garden and then realized that I have a huge area in front of the house that isn't going to be planted until next spring. Well, whadda ya know!!!!

Here's how the planting unfolded.

Next spring, I am going to split all of the Siberian Irises that are surrounding the big rock and spread them out in front of the house. Siberian Irises with a few very large Hostas thrown in for good measure. That's the plan we've come up with and I think it will not require much maintenance once they are in the soil. Less maintenance is our two-word theme going forward.

There's a better view. As soon as I planted the last seedling, I remembered that there are rabbits around and there is a reason why we have the vegetable garden fenced. Oops! We'll see how this unfolds.

There's no way these zucchini are ready to be ripped out.

Nor the eggplants.

The remainder of the Mesclun mix seedlings found a home in the greenhouse.

It was the perfect temperature to get physical in the garden this morning. And, to add another layer of interest, there were birds! Today's sponsor.

I opened the Merlin app and completely forgot to turn it off. It drained my battery, but who cares about batteries when 27 birds' songs are recognized.
