You Never Know...

..... what interesting places and people you will meet when you head out on an adventure. This morning, Ted was feeling chipper and wanted to take a drive. Rarely does Ted feel chipper in the morning. So, where to go?

I wanted to visit the Lone Pine Marsh to get some examples of plants that grow there for a workshop that I'll be doing later on this month. And, just yesterday, a post from Tattered Apron Bakehouse came across my FB feed. I'd never heard of Tattered Apron Bakehouse. Hmmm.... those two places are very near each other. Perfect.

We arrived at the Tattered Apron's cute display cart around noon and ..... there were only 4 items left!!! I'd read that Jocelyn has been selling out every Saturday. Whew! 3 of the items made their way into our truck.

There's the lonely last box of muffins.

Heading towards the Marsh, we noticed 4 bales of straw piled next to a barn at the side of the road. We wheeled around and clued in to the farmer's signage: Staw $5. Perfect. We need straw for the vegetable garden, we were driving the truck and the price was right.

And, we were off!

Northumberland Land Trust's Lone Pine Marsh is open to the public. Their pavillion was the perfect spot for an early lunch - one that starts with dessert. How can you say no to a dessert whose first ingredient is whipping cream?

.... the raspberry crumble cheesecake was out of this world.

Your mouth is watering.

We had to split it, but some lemon poppyseed mini scones were waiting to eaten. This meal fits nicely in the category, "You Only Live Once". We will eat salads for supper. 🥴

I will press and dry the samples of vegetation that I found on my wander around the marsh. Hopefully, they will work well as reference material for the workshop.

The mown pathways made walking in the meadow a breeze.

And, to top off our adventure - one more serendipity. Cousins Jane and Bruce were sitting on their porch as we drove by. What summer is for - visits on porches.

And finding a new tasty bakery.

And finding a closer source of small square bales of straw.

Life is good.
