A Gem of a Day

Finally! Christmas with the kids and grandkids.... and the odd dog thrown in for good measure.

It's interesting what impresses young kids. Charlotte loves our house because she can hang on the outside of a curved railing. Designers would probably look at our 1970's railing and think how outdated it is. For Charlotte, it's a prized feature.

And Nora felt the need to bring a herd of fluffy animals to grandma and grandpa's place. I will miss these days when they grow out of them.

Yum! The young ones still love sitting at their own table in the dining room. Same seats each time. There's something comforting in consistency. They entertain each other..... this time by singing songs from the musical, Hamilton.

The annual scavenger hunt for grandkids led to presents hidden in Grandpa's shop - one of which was a letter from Grandma.

I even got accused of not closing my letters. Apparently, my printing is hard to read. I thought it was pretty good. 😔

Isn't it wonderful that kids are taking up creative hobbies like crocheting? Who knew? This will be an interesting exercise - she is used to crocheting with heavier yarn.

After a few more gifts, Grandpa had some stories to tell.....

.... and it was time for a bit of fresh air and pond clearing.

What a perfect day to end our long Christmas season. I don't know what this year will bring, but today was a gem.

“Reflect upon your present blessings --

of which every man has many --

not on your past misfortunes,

of which all men have some.”

Charles Dickens
