Last day! 😕
We have mixed emotions today. We are very happy to be back in western Ontario and spending time with our Adventure Buddies. On the other hand, we are thinking this may be the last time for us. At this point in our lives, sleeping in one's own bed is a happy thought.
Our buddies know that we love farmers' markets, so this morning we walked over to the Guelph Farmers' Market. Maybe we can blame it on lack of sleep, or maybe we can say that we were so happy to be in a market with our friends that common sense went out the window this morning. I can't bring myself to type how much we paid for 5 pastries. Note to self: always ask the price of things before you buy them.
It was an adventure.
After saying our sad farewells, we headed west to places like Maryhill, Floradale and Elmira. Some Mennonite farms have had additions since we last were here. Many sell different items at their farm gates than 10 years ago: oven ready chickens is one.
There is no such thing as a messy farmer in this part of the province.
Others have put up huge new barns for everything from dairy to beef to pigs to chickens and ducks. We were delighted to see that Whiffletree Farm & Nursery has a huge new storage building and sales office. Many of our fruit bushes and trees come from Whiffletree. When we used to visit them, their farm looked like...
... this.
I didn't take pictures of the countless new barns we passed by on our back road tour through farm country. Nor did I take pictures of the businesses that we purchased farm equipment and supplies from in our farming days. It was good to drive by them one last time and remember those days.
Today's sponsor: good memories.
“Some things don't last forever,
but some things do.
Like a good song,
or a good book,
or a good memory you can take out and unfold in your darkest times,
pressing down on the corners and peering in close,
hoping you still recognize the person you see there.”
