“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else
is the greatest accomplishment.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
We are starting a new chapter in the book called, "Ted & Hilda's Adventures". 42+ years ago I joined Ted on his farm. We farmed together for a further 20 years and then moved to Dale Road. We have been here for over 20 years, making our way together. For many weeks of each year, we were fortunate to be able to travel and camp here and there around North America. But, we're gettin' old! The trailer was sold. No more long trips for us. Time to stay closer to home.
And, for us that means making room for a greenhouse in the back yard. Why go to Florida or Louisiana when you can enjoy your own back yard?? Making room meant cutting down 7 large cedar trees that might eventually blow over on the greenhouse. Cedar branches are better recycled than burned.
We're ready to head to the recycling centre.
But, not before we attend to this truck load of logs.
Can you believe that this man is happy to have the opportunity to cut, split and stack 15 bush cords of hardwood? A two year supply. The same man who insisted that we were switching to gas heat half a year ago? Is this a middle age crisis? 🥴
I love watching skilled operators do their magic with tricky loads. It looked to me like his grapple boom was a natural extension of his hand.
In only a half hour he was unloaded.
I think backing on to busy Dale road was the hardest part of the job.
I also think we will be looking at this lawn ornament for quite a while.
And, someone is really happy about that.
Happy Birthday to my "be yourself" man. And, may our new backyard adventures be as interesting as the past 42 years have been.
❤️
