Beauty and Wisdom Close to Home

I'll start the post with beauty and end with wisdom.

When we were farming, we worked 364 days of the year. One day off to go to a farming trade show overnight in Stratford. That went on for the first 8 or 10 years. Then, we would camp at provincial parks close to home for a week/year where one of us would stay overnight with the kids in the campground and the other would go back home to do the night and morning chores. That went on for another 5 years or so. Only when we the last pig went down the laneway in 2000 did we start to take holidays. For the next 20 years, we somewhat made up for the previous 20 years. This year, we are finding ourselves coming full circle, having no holidays booked. Life is like that.
We are making an effort to have little adventures close to home. Today's adventure was to walk in Sylvan Glen Conservation Area.

The Ganaraska River was as lovely as ever. We stopped and sat at every bench along the way.

The new bridge is looking good, but the river is starting to undermine the banks already. Oh, and I forgot to do my hair this morning. Looking a little fuzzy around the edges.

On the way into Port Hope, there is a ridge of land along Choate Road. We could see the smokey skies from the western wildfires.

An adventure isn't an adventure without some tasty food. Jim's Pizza! We ate it at the west beach where.....

.... John Shaw Rimmington has shared his stone balancing expertise with whoever wants to see it.

What a creative mind this man has.

And, isn't it wonderful that no one has thought that they need to wreck it?

The installation below resonated with me. There have been times in the past month when I have felt like we were holding on by our fingernails. We are living our lives day by day now, only with a lot fewer pigs to take care of than 40 years ago.

And, the wisdom that I promised?
