Beloeil - Beautiful Eye

This morning's 4,000+ step walk along the east side of the Richelieu River lived up to its translation - beautiful eye or beautiful view. Beloeil is directly across from Mont-Saint-Hilaire. We were hoping for a clear view of the mountain, but the mountain was covered in a mist for the whole walk. I like the look of a mist-covered mountain.

Want a church?

If you don't know what you are looking at, this is a swimming pool in the river. It belongs to a restaurant with an outdoor patio. We chose not to swim - mainly because we were either wearing mittens or wishing we were wearing mittens.

This church across the river in Mont-Saint-Hilaire seems to be still in business.

Just like on yesterday's road trip, we noticed a lot of yellows in certain spots.....

.... but every so often there is still a pop of colour to be seen. I love how it looks like the green spruce trees are framing the orange maple to help it be seen.

Even though the past two days have been unseasonably warm, today's much cooler temperature is hinting to us that winter is coming. And, in case we didn't get that message, what we are seeing the locals doing is telling us that fall is over. These guys were putting up a temporary garage that is often done here. No parking in the snowbanks for them.

After lunch back at home, we ventured out to see what our community is like. There is a colourful subdivision within a km of where we are. French are not afraid of colour.

We walked along a naturalized pathway filled with newly planted native species and buzzing with woodpeckers and chickadees and bluejays. The path led to a beautiful children's park containing this water feature and two other equally wonderful play areas.

I often wonder why we in Ontario don't embraces 6-plexes like the Quebecois do. They do 6-plexes well. And these are right across from the commuter parking lot where the train goes to Montreal. All that in the shadow of Mont-Saint-Hilaire. What a beautiful place to live!

On the way home, we marvelled at this interesting addition to an already really cool home.....

.... and all figured that this house would be a lovely one to explore.

Dave has been studying French. Yesterday, Ruth and I found a book at a Little Free Library for him. It looks like he loved it. "The Dreaming Bears".

Maybe we were all dreaming bears today.
Depending on our leg lengths, we walked between 10,000 and 12,000 steps today with Ted coming in at around 5,000. Yay us!
