Best Time of Year

It's the best time of the year. We sleep with the windows open and the cool breezes smell fresh and crisp all night long. Birds start welcoming the morning before 6. It was just starting to get light when I went to the greenhouse to pick greens. These are this morning's alarm clocks:
Carolina Wren
Common Grackle
Pine Warbler
Northern Cardinal
American Robin
Black-capped Chickadee
American Crow

This picture does not do a good job of showing how much bounty there is in the greenhouse. Today, I picked another 27 bags of greens, just from the greenhouse. There were a few of bags of greens from the garden....

...... which needed to be washed.

Chives are at their peak.

Irises are starting to bloom this week. Good thing they are, because there isn't much colour contribution from the rest of the flowers.

13 bouquets!

Chives make a great cut flower too.

When we arrived home from Fare Share, a new bird to us, a Black-throated Green Warbler was enthusiastically welcoming us back into our gardens.
It was a lovely morning.
“Go outside.
Don’t tell anyone and don’t bring your phone.
Start walking and keep walking until you no longer know the road
like the palm of your hand,
because we walk the same roads day in and day out,
to the bus and back home and we cease to see.”
