This coming Saturday, I'll be leading and 8.8 km hike mostly west of Canton. We'll park on the 4th line of Hope Twp. next to this former church. It's my favourite hike to lead because it features farms, stone houses and art. Some of my favourite things.
It's harvest time. Apples are beginning to be harvested as well as....
..... soybeans.
And, art wended its way through gardens and throughout this hike.
Most of the traffic we encountered this morning was various forms of farm vehicles that were drawing soybeans to .....
..... Ganaraska Grain's elevator.
There are two short, easy hills on this hike.
This post is sponsored by juvenile bald eagles. Somewhere near this spot, we were stopped by a dog-walker. She saw my camera and figured we would be interested to know that a family of bald eagles has been frequenting the area. Two adults and THREE juveniles. I think we saw the three juveniles fly north from the Ganny today. Huge birds.
Art comes in many forms in this neighbourhood. Look at the interesting brickwork around the windows and door.
Some varieties of apples have already been harvested.....
... and others were just being beautiful as they waited to be picked.
Folks get real serious about art on Anderson Road. Sometimes you need to pay attention to see the almost-hidden pieces.
Sometimes, houses masquerade as art. Aren't those flowers lovely?
Here's a closer look. Do you see the orchid peeking out of the window?
This is a new installation since the last time I hiked here.
This homeowner has a thing for artistic trees. Lovely, isn't it? No need to prune them....
..... and they probably won't be eaten by bud worms or borers.
This is another new addition. Just for our art walk! I feel so special.
This hike crosses the Ganaraska River twice. As we approached the Ganny on Anderson Road, I heard some raucus splashing in the river. I thought that there must be an animal walking in the water. No animal. Hundreds of whatever-they-ares. Can you see them?
The second hill rose up after our snack/drink stop at the Ganny. Another easy one.
It's starting to look like fall this week.
Houses have been decorated for the season.
Back on Kellog Road, there was more art to be viewed. Human-made art....
.... and natural art. Rosehips. So beautiful.
Now that you have a taste of my favourite hike, maybe you will want to join me on Saturday.
