Food for the Soul

One of the main reasons we have been growing food to give to our neighbours through the Fare Share Food Bank is that we think everyone needs proper nutrition to enable them to function in society.
3 years ago, we added herbs and flowers into the mix. Nutrition for the soul.
Below are Wednesday's bouquets. When we arrived at Fare Share this morning, we were told that on Wednesday, a neighbour who was picking up her food for the week mentioned to the volunteer that she was going to a funeral next. She went home with one of these bouquets. We are always so impressed with how kind and intuitive the volunteers are there.
It takes a village.

I decided to split the work up this week and we brought bunches of herbs and spinach and more flowers this morning. It's more fun when you are not rushed.
Our sponsor today are quotes about food for the soul.
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
Virginia Woolf

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”
St. Francis Of Assisi
The lacy grass in today's bouquets is called "Frosted Explosion". It looks like fireworks to me. There are "Bunny Tails" grasses in each bouquet too. Sensory bouquets.

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you're there.
It doesn't matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that's like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.”
Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

When we delivered our 5 crates of goodies today, it felt like a homecoming. A hug from one lady, a deep conversation with another and being introduced to a new kindred spirit as well. It was lovely. Food for the soul.
