Cool Weather Crops

Cool weather crops are starting to produce nicely. Today, there were 36 bags of Mesclun mix greens from the greenhouse as well as some Swiss Chard. Perennial herbs like chives and thyme were a-plenty and so was the rhubarb.

I transplanted somewhere around 100 Mesclun mix greens in the garden this week. They should be good to go when the greenhouse plants start bolting. The cool weather predicted for the rest of the week is good news for those plants.

Hot weather loving seeds have not been planted yet. It's going to be an interesting year.

When we delivered our produce to Fare Share food bank this morning, slightly after 9 a.m., there were around 5 or 6 people waiting outside. When we went inside to weigh our stuff, there were already 20+ people either choosing their food or sitting in the waiting room. Staff told us that they have new clients every week.

Something told me to pick as many posies as I could this morning. There were enough flowers for 12 posies. After everything was weighed, I mentioned to a staff member that the flowers should be handed out sooner rather than later. They are pretty fragile.

She grabbed the crate of posies and plunked them in the waiting room. We went off in search of more black crates for next week's delivery and when we walked back through the waiting room....

... there was a young gentleman sitting patiently on a chair, holding a posie. Nice.
