Dancing in a New Country

This evening's fun was attending the Northumberland Multicultural Festival in Victoria Park. The New Canadians Centre (Peterborough & Cobourg) hosted this lovely event. I felt like the world had come to my backyard. A colourful world.

Dancers from many countries performed dances from many other countries.

Spain, Philippines, Hawaii, Mexico, some South American countries.

And, the dresses....

.... were too beautiful for words.

Wearable quilts. I would love to try one on.

This is Thelma Dillon performing a Hawaiian dance.

And, sometimes when you dance.....

... your flower falls out of your hair. And, someone gets a really nice picture.

And, other times the photographer captures a whistfully beautiful face. Faces of folks who have made Canada their home.

And, feet that will walk Canada's streets and bring their gifts and talents to our mix of humanity.

The light coming through this dancer's skirt makes me want to paint it.

There's Thelma again with a candle on her head as she dances.

There were 6 or 8 kids who were learning the dances and they got to take part in some of the final presentations. This little sweetheart had a hard time keeping her flowers airborne.

In the final dance, everyone took part, adults and kids. And, audience members had a chance to try dancing over the moving bamboo poles. It looked pretty tricky to me.

But, those feet never faltered. I hope that holds true for their lives in their new country.

Thank you for the evening and welcome to Canada.
