I've finally disciplined myself to properly pick red currants. In previous years, I would pick them as they ripened, thinking that when the last ones were ripe, the first ones might be rotton. Not so. This morning, after the heavy rains, I found a stool and easily picked one bush.
Next to those red currants, this allium has recently appeared. No idea where it came from, but isn't it lovely?
My favourite annual, verbena bonariensis, is starting to push out flowers. Starting them inside and moving them to the greenhouse has moved their flowering season ahead around a month.
This is our first year growing snap dragons. This variety is called Chantilly Mix and will grow between 30" and 48" high.
I believe this is a wild mustard. It seems to like it in the perennial garden, so we'll keep it there for a while.
Have you ever seen a more interesting flower? And the scent!!! Milkweed.
I never paid attention to the anthers of Evening Primrose before. They look flamboyant.
And... to continue our look at these anthers.... and stigmas ... Wow! These are kiwi flowers. Even though we only have one kiwi vine, two years ago it self-polinated and we got a nice bowl of tiny kiwis.
Our lone clematis is not too happy this year. We may have mulched it too much last fall.
And, there's one bush's woth of red currants. They are now in the freezer, waiting to give us tasty memories next winter.
Today's sponsor? Rain. I am so thankful for the steady rain of the past 24 hours. No hand-watering tonight!
