Future Memories!

It's nothing like our son's snowfall in Toronto. He measured 2'11" of snowfall in his back yard. But, it's still memorable.

Yesterday, I was worried that the new dump of snow forecasted would stress the greenhouse. It's hard to tell, but I spent 20 minutes pawing off about 1' of snow where I could reach it. Nice to still have a 3' wide, long handled rubber scraper from our farming days. With yesterday's dump, the final look is a bit angular. I couldn't reach the very top.

Snow should not be a surprise. We still live in Canada.

I love how events like big snowfalls tie the years together. They string a thread from one decade to another in my memory. From the giant one in 2022 where hundreds of travellers were stranded on the 401 and were housed and fed of by folks in small towns like Colborne. For days they took care of those bedraggled travellers.

When living on the farm, there was a 3' snowfall in early December. Lindsey remembers thinking that she could toboggan off the roof. The drifts were so high.

Growing up in Prince Edward County, I remember not being able to get home from work as a teenager because the County was closed to travel. My grandfather, who was living near Consecon had a stroke in one of those snowstorms and had to be taken by snowmobile to the hospital. And, in earlier years, in the 1950's, not being able to see the tops of the fences.

Maybe today will be a future memory for our grandkids.

I shovelled a path to the shop so Ted wouldn't get snow in his boots.

And, the blowing begins.

I am thankful that this snowfall was one of the fluffiest snowfalls ever. It could have been a lot worse!

“Some things don't last forever,

but some things do.

Like a good song,

or a good book,

or a good memory you can take out and unfold in your darkest times,

pressing down on the corners and peering in close,

hoping you still recognize the person you see there.”
