Tomorrow's hike may be one of the softest one of the year. The entire route is on sandy backroads.

When we pre-hiked this route yesterday, I was pleased to see that trilliums are still blooming in the forest. And, not just your everyday trilliums, you may see some that have turned green because of a bacterial infection.

ree

It will be easy to see trilliums.

Farmers were busy tilling the huge field next to the road. It's so sandy in this part of the county that some years you get a crop here and some years you don't.

ree

And, there is a good reason why we will be parking well off the road. We won't want to slow production of our food for next year. This guy needs the whole road.

ree

It's that week in the spring when you see all of the greens.....

ree

.... and a few different yellows.

This route is like a backwards "P". Around the back of the loop there are a couple of very shallow hills.

If you pay attention, you may see one of these gems: Columbine (Aquilegia). Aren't they amazing?

ree

Bring along bug spray. We didn't need it, but one of these days we may see some black flies.

ree

And, don't go rolling in the ditches. 😲

Fortunately, one of my pre-hiking buddies is knowlegeable about wildflowers. I had never seen grass pinks (calopogon) before. How did that happen? They are a member of the orchid family.

I'll leave you with these delicate whatever-they-ares and with more information on the hike.
