Sadly, an ear infection in our Toronto grandkids' home stopped them from joining us today. Happily, we were joined by some feathered friends instead.
Isn't life wonderful sometimes? It felt like a gift.
Lemoine Point Conservation Area is our go-to adventuring destination in Kingston lately. Dozens of folks were enjoying the warm sunshine there this morning. We got a lot of practise holding out our hands. Some of us were luckier than others.
"Why do they always go to Grandpa?"
A wild turkey! Hmmmm.... he's not sure about these two. Especially that colourful one.
Ted seemed to be a magnet for all kinds of birds this morning. James & Rigby couldn't believe what they were seeing.
Finally!
Look at that smile!
And, another...... finally!
So worth the wait.
As I was walking on the path, I heard a bird song that was unfamiliar to me. I looked back and it was this woman whistling. She told me that she comes to this conservation area every day and whistles for the deer to come and be fed. She carried a bag of vegetables which she tossed to the deer. Four of them appeared while we were there.
Not sure that feeding any kind of wild animal is a good idea. But, it sure makes for nice pictures.
None of us had ever had a hairy woodpecker land on our hands. This one seemed quite at home on Lindsey's fingers.
I am torn between the thoughts of you should not feed wildlife and life is short, enjoy it. I think the first thought is probably best for our animal neighbours. Somehow we need to find ways of living next to each other with everyone thriving. Interacting so closely with those beautiful birds and deer felt like a rare treasure.
Heaven on earth.
“Jesus's resurrection is the beginning of God's new project
not to snatch people away from earth to heaven
but to colonize earth with the life of heaven.
That, after all,
is what the Lord's Prayer is about.”
