Last Picking for 2023

It felt a bit weird to be out picking vegetables at 7:15 a.m. and not needing a jacket or gloves. We had a frost earlier this week, making this morning our last time picking for Fare Share for this year.

Spinach is easy to pick in the low light.

Some of our late-planted spinach was ready to be harvested as baby spinach leaves.

All of the pepper plants succumbed to the frost, so I pulled them out as I gleaned all of the remaining peppers.

Some of the late planted beets were ready too. We'll eat the rest ourselves as they mature. If they mature.

The cosmos have given to the end of their giving. What generous plants.

Three little boxes weighing 14 lbs. I am a bit sad that the gardening year is over. On the other hand, I am a little bit tired.

Our friends at FareShare have been telling us lately that the number of neighbours using the food bank has gone up significantly this year. We have a lot of hungry neighbours in Northumberland County.
