Lily-of-the-Valley Day!

Yesterday afternoon, I picked a whack of lilies-of-the-valley. It's a tedious job. They need to be tugged on just right to get a nice long stem. It seemed like a good plan to spread the fun out. They were perfectly happy this morning, awaiting other flowers to join them in a posy. I could smell them from 20' away.

And, there they are! It's a delicate bunch today. Tulips and daffodils are finished for the year and peonies are in the bud stage.

Hostas are perfect for picking. I just snip of bunches at the back of plants and away we go.

Even though Ted had no sleep last night, he insisted on helping out.

And there they are. We are up to 10 bunches today. 10 of our neighbours will get some extra beauty in their day. It's so cool to see how the volunteers at Fare Share know their neighbours and know who would benefit from some flowers each week. They really care.

The gardens and greenhouse were generous this morning. I found 7 bunches of rhubarb, 30 bags of mixed salad greens, 2 bags of spinach leaves, 1 bunch of chard, 2 bunches of mint, 3 bunches of chives, 1 bunch of thyme and the 10 posies.
And, we were rewarded by this visitor's presence when we were done. A red-bellied woodpecker!

The icing on the cake of the morning.
