My Soul is Full

The woods behind our house was calling to me today. Before I left our property, there was a colourful sign of spring on the path. Who knows what other spring beauties I would find today?

A neighbour has done a very good job of thinning a big part of the forest. Just enough light is allowed to enter to make trilliums really, really happy.

New life and decay next to each other.

Until today, I did not know that there is such a thing as a double hepatica. How lovely!

Trilliums are at their peak this week.

Let's look closer....

... and even closer.
Such interesting sleek textures. And shadows.

More decay - turkey tail mushrooms, completely covering this stump.

There were trilliums as far as my eye could see.

The red ones are coming to the end of their bloom time.

There were still a few spring beauties to be seen, hiding amongst last year's maple leaves.....

... and if you looked up, you could see that maples were still blooming.

And, finally.... Meadow Rue flowers. A delicate finish to our walk.

I'll end with one of my favourite poems:
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and rightdoing there is a field.
I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about.”
Rumi
