Nameless Trail

There's a trail that starts in a parking lot on the east side Hwy 45, just north of Beagle Club Road. I don't know the name of the trail, but do know that it goes up to the fire tower. It was really nice hiking a nameless trail with someone who knew where to go. All I needed to do was follow.

Reminds me of one of my favourite quotes:

“Don’t walk in front of me… I may not follow

Don’t walk behind me… I may not lead

Walk beside me… just be my friend”

Albert Camus

Nice blaze indicating we were on the fire tower trail.

Last night's snowfall and below freezing temperatures created some artistry around a little pond.

Northumberland County.

Ponds on hills.

And, there's the fire tower.

I was hoping for a view and.....

.... was not disappointed. I love that cerulean blue colour of the distant forest. At this time of year, you need to celebrate any colour you can find.

Along the trail we saw some indication of wildlife making tracks in the snow. These tracks were more defined. Not sure what they are. But, I know that they are not Emerald Ash Bore tracks. When you have to cut down and processed the firewood for 25 dead ash trees, you become familiar with those tracks. These ones look like the borers were practising exclamation marks.

The soil in the forest is very sandy. I'm thankful that 100 years ago, local visionaries chose to plant trees here. Wherever there are no trees, and there are humans driving 4-wheelers, erosion quickly follows.

Almost back to the car and fallen trees were following the contours of the land.

And, I followed my hiking buddy right back to the car.

We'll need to do this again.
