One Day Away!

Rigby was excited when I attached his leash this morning. He's getting older and doesn't jump quite as high as he used to when we brought out his leash. But, he was still ecstatic.

The new Wolfe Island Ferry (IV) is not in service. Our ride over was on the 50 year old Wolfe Island (III). It didn't matter to us: the ferry was less than half full. And it still took us where we wanted to go.

There is still a lot of chunky ice around Kingston.

It's hard to believe that in only 20 minutes a person can go from modern day downtown Kingston to.....

.... this. An island that feels like you've travelled back 50 years in time.

There were still large ice formations on the shore of Lake Ontario.

If you dig down anywhere on the island, you will hit shale or limestone quickly. No wonder farmers struggled there. Many did not make it.

It's interesting that some trees flourished in these rocky conditions. Maybe the whole island should be a nature reserve. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

The ice around the island is already timeless.....

.... and makes a stable raft.

It was refreshing to be able to explore the island at 20 km/hr and only pass two vehicles in 3 hours.

Maya Angelou is still one of my favourite poets:

“Every person needs to take one day away.

A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.

Jobs,

family,

employers,

and friends can exist one day without any one of us,

and if our egos permit us to confess,

they could exist eternally in our absence.

Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted,

no solutions searched for.

Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
