Packaging Beauty and Worth

Wednesday mornings are beginning to have a predictable pattern to them. Sometime around 6:30, I set up tables and gather secateurs, paper towels, plastic bags, cardboard boxes and everything else that will be needed to package our produce. (If I was really organized, I'd make a kit - but that might make it feel like work.) 🥴

Somewhere around 7:30 I welcome my helper - helpers today.

My Wednesday morning buddy knows her way around the gardens now. She knows all of the little nooks and crannies where random salad greens are tucked and where to find different herbs. There was lots of dill today.

We may need to get out another folding table soon. Our new helper is visiting from Toronto. Not only did she do a beautiful job of picking 48 hosta leaves, she also learned how to identify a hosta plant. Handy thing to know when you are sent to pick hosta leaves. I think we bundled 14 flower bunches this morning.

You never know when an inspector will show up. Half way through our packaging and bundling time, one of our neighbour's chickens decided to make her rounds.

Maybe she was hoping for crumbs. She loves the compost her owner gives her.

The flowers filled both tables as they were being arranged.

Helper #1 is as lovely as the flowers.......

..... and helper # 2 was a delight to get to know.

When all of the bunches were packed carefully in the boxes, I noticed that we managed to preserve the dew on some of them. Good job, ladies!

Hoping someone will feel like the queen when they pick this one.

Our salad greens really needed this reminder. The rains from two days ago did a good job of splashing soil on their leaves.

I am thinking about inserting a little note with the herbs, letting their end user know that they can easily be dried for the winter. In our living room are newspapers on the floor with sage and dill, neatly spread out to dry.

This project is in flux.

There's this week's offering: 20 lb.!

or perceive a sense of his own worth

until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror

of another loving,

caring human being.”
