Perfect Morning

I was in the garden just after the sun rose this morning. It felt like heaven there to me. Perfect temperature, even having to wear a light jacket. A Northern Flicker singing to me from the top of the dead aspen trees next door. I wish every day was like this one.
Golden beets are ready this week. They taste so good with a mustardy vinaigrette and walnuts and Macedonian feta cheese.

There were 16 zucchinis more than ready to pick.

Not only is it peak season for zucchini, the herbs are at the top of their game this week too. Summer Savoury, chives, oregano, thyme, basil and mint today.

If I could only grow one vegetable it might be Perpetual Spinach. It's a Swiss Chard that tastes and acts like spinach. I guess the hybridizers thought, "If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...." It's the plant that keeps on giving no matter what temperature.

There were enough flowers for 16 bunches, 8 with a warm colour theme....

.... and 8 with a cool colour pallet.

When we thought we were finished with the vegetables, Ted remembered that the Bull's Blood beets were ready. Last week, I went through the garden on Tuesday and wrote a list of what would be ready. I forgot to do that this week. Our brains don't work all that well in the early morning. 🤔

It's only 9:44 and not only have I had a perfect morning so far, I think I've found a perfect image for my next watercolour. What do you think?

I'll end with a cool quote about mornings:
“If the world were merely seductive,
that would be easy.
If it were merely challenging,
that would be no problem.
But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world
and a desire to enjoy the world.
This makes it hard to plan the day.”
