Racetrack Road Pre-Hike

Tomorrow's hike (Sept. 23) will start where Racetrack Road meets Dale Road. (details at end of post)

Today, I had the privilege of pre-hiking the route with someone who recently had cataract surgery. It was like walking with a 2 year old - everything was interesting. She could see details in the distance that she hadn't seen in years. We were walking in a new and exciting world.

Fall is happening in this new and exciting world.

Distant soybean? fields had that end-of-season look to them.

Sumacs were leading the way in the colour department.

I love it when farmers put red roofs on their barns. Can you see it? My hiking buddy could.

This route starts at Dale Road and follows Racetrack Road around to Leach Road, then to Rose Road and Ferguson Road and back to Racetrack Road. There are a few small hills and lots of beauty to be seen.

As in all good hikes, the hills are at the beginning.

Cows seem to like hills in this neighbourhood. I imagine if that is where you were fed, you'd like hills too.

I can't guarantee that you will see horses being ridden, but...

.... you'll probably catch a glimpse of some of the many horses in this neighbourhood.

And, they may even catch a glimpse of you.

Below is AllTrails' map of our hike. There are two options for meeting:

  1. Meet at the Burnham Street Commuter Parking Lot at 9:20, leaving at 9:30 with possible carpooling to start of hike.

  2. Meet and park on Racetrack Road at 9:35, as you enter it from Dale Road. Park on the west side of the road. what3words co-ordinate: disapprove.suburb.kneeling

Please don't get confused by the part of the route that shows us walking from my home on Dale Road. Also, AllTrails told me that this hike was closer to 7.5 km than the 5 km I'd posted on PRHC website. Oops!

Looking forward to hiking with you tomorrow!
