Two Thursdays ago we attended the first Road to Cultivate concert of the season. We just knew that we needed to introduce our visiting grandkids to this inspiring gathering of neighbours and friends this week.
Every town needs a Road to Cultivate.
Nothing like a cloudy evening to bring out the colours. Charlotte & I joined the drumming circle for a while, but soon other interests were calling her.
I'd told the kids about Lee Higginson's collaborative art projects in the park. Ewen, almost 12, was unsure about taking part in this. In less than two minutes with Lee, he was hooked! What is it about making art together that connects generations and hearts?
That smile lasted the whole 2 hours of the concert.
So, back to that concert: babies were admired. Have you ever seen such a cute little mouth?
Local musicians, Shannon Linton & Jakeb Daniel regaled us with their songs and words.
Friends, snuggled under flowers, listened and smiled.
And, then Kerri Ought and friends reached right into our granddaughter's heart. When Kerri started to sing,
Lie down
right here beside me
just for a minute
slip your shoes off
hunker down dear
beneath the covers
and close your eyes
Charlotte couldn't believe her ears!
She wasn't the only one to sing along with Kerri.
Meanwhile, a different kind of art filled the large canvas and the little hearts. "Art is Everywhere. Art is for everyone"
Winners of raffles were announced as little ones got experience in front of an audience. And, the fun was over for another week.
Next Thursday's concert is titled, Kids' Week. Darrelle London will be on the Road to Cultivate. And, sadly the grandkids will be back at Camp IAWAH. But, I think they will have enough good memories to make it to next year.
“One swing set, well worn but structurally sound, seeks new home.
Make memories with your kid or kids so that someday he or she or they
will look into the backyard and feel the ache of sentimentality
as desperately as I did this afternoon.
It's all fragile and fleeting, dear reader,
but with this swing set,
your child(ren) will be introduced to the ups and downs of human life gently and safely,
and may also learn the most important lesson of all:
No matter how hard you kick,
no matter how high you get,
you can't go all the way around.”
John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
