On the way to Wales, we stopped for a few hours in the world's first book town, Hay-on-Wye. I was feeling a little under the weather, so I didn't take any pictures there. What I thought I'd do for you today though, was to give you a glimpse of what it looks like out the windshield as we traveled from Chipping Norton to Cardiff, Wales.
Leaving Chipping Norton, hedgerows were pretty solid, so we could only see over them on hills like the one below.
As we went further west in England, houses went from being built from oolitic limestone, a warm golden colour to ones that were made of brick and stucco.
Sometimes it was difficult for me to get a picture, but imagine a road at the bottom of this picture and the trees on the right have been chopped back at a right angle to form a roof-like canopy.
Canola was still blooming brightly in the western Cotswolds area.
Notice the nice road with lines in the middle. That is going to come to an end and it is going to become much more narrow and winding.
Huge trucks seemed to have staged themselves to be passing exactly where the road was the narrowest and bendiest.
We fit through that narrow slot.....
... missed this load of logs by a few inches. Notice Lindsey's white knuckles?
Approaching the Welsh border, the hills got higher. Sadly, I wasn't able to get a picture of sheep scattered loosely on hills like this one. At one point, we could see 4 or 5 tiny waterfalls from one vantage point.
Can you tell we are now in Wales? I love how the raindrops on the windshield picked up the red of the stoplight.
Clouds were quite low as we entered Wales.
There's the outskirts of Cardiff. Lindsey was amazed at how unagressive traffic was as we made our way into the heart of the city.
There are roundabouts by the dozens. Roundabouts and double roundabouts.
Our home for the next two nights is above a hairdressing salon on a fairly busy street. We've already walked into the heart of the downtown and explored the Morgan Arcade.
Below is Yim's pic of that area. We may return there tomorrow. It's lovely.
While Lindsey & I returned back to our place (I was tired), Yim and Cynthia walked down to the River Wye....
..... and up to the Cardiff Castle to admire the views. Credits to Yim for these pictures. I love the splash of red in an otherwise grey scene.
In the morning, the weather will dictate where we explore.
Exciting!
