Smiling Vegetables

Other than it looks like Ted was ready to stab someone with a knife, it was a happy morning in the gardens today.. He uses his drywall knife to pick cucumbers. Doesn't everyone do that?

One of Laura's standing up jobs was to pick Cosmos. We try to balance bending over jobs and standing jobs. All of our backs thank us for that.

We are at the peak of Sunflower season. All of these seeded themselves down from last year. I guess the Blue Jays missed some when they were eating them in the fall.

The first eggplants that have been enjoying the heat of the greenhouse were ready to go this morning.

We always keep the misshapen vegetables for ourselves. So, tonight we will be having roasted red and golden beets. Yum!

When we dropped off the produce at the Fare Share food bank this morning, the food bank co-ordinator said that her daughter who lives with autism immediately reached for the "Frosted Explosion" grass last week. She loved petting it. Something told me that I needed to add more tactility in the bouquets this year. I was glad to hear her response to the grasses. The "Frosted Explosion" grass is the fine grass. The green plant on the left is dill. It makes a great filler in bouquets. We will grow it again next year.

We had 15 bouquets to share.

I think this one might be a bit difficult to paint.
