Today's hike started near Jameison Road and 6th line of Hope township, in the hills north of Port Hope. It was one of those perfect spring days for a hike. Cool and sunny.
At the beginning of the hike we were given the options of doing a 6 km hike with a very steep hill and a 7 km hike that was very muddy with a steep hill. Our hike leader took a show of hands and mud it was.
Look at those shadows! Where there are shadows there is sunshine.
By the time I took this picture, we'd been up the steep hill. Most of us did not want to know what the very steep hill was like.
We connected with the Ganaraska Trail where it crosses the 6th line and made our way south.
Good place to stop, have snacks and conversations and enjoy the sunshine.
The Ganaraska Trail makes its way across streams with beaver dams.....
.... up steep little hills....
.... and into the cedar swamp. No need for standing straight here. Everyone was watching where to place their feet.
We picked our way through the muddy spots, holding on to handy cedars as we swung around to find stable and dry footing.
Nothing like a stile to add to the adventure of a hike.
Northumberland County has its fair share of unmaintained roads, all of them interesting. I love how the trees' shadows follow the contours of this road.
We were fortunate to have had sunshine accompany us for the whole hike.
And, just as we arrived back at our cars, the clouds rolled in north of us and put on a nice show. Sunshine all the way! Lucky us.
“A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.”
