Surprise!

You never know what surprises will cross your path when you venture outside. We decided to do something different this evening and went for a hike after supper. Pretty radical for us.

Ted wanted to check the bridges on the hiking trail at Sylvan Glen. They were supposed to be replaced and he wanted to see how they'd built them. Ever the engineer. The current bridges along the trail were very creative in their time, but are being undermined by the river.

Mosquitoes were having a convention at Sylvan Glen. We should have known. The river was as beautiful as ever, but when we stepped into the woods, we had to keep moving to stay ahead of them.

I took some other pictures on the fly, but the one I was most smitten with is this one. I thought that that was it for pictures for this outing.

But, I was wrong.

Sometimes, you just need to randomly be in the right place at the right time and.....

Foxes!

Three fox kits cavorting on Davey's gravel piles. Only half a km from home.

Two of them were frolicking while the other one slept on the warm gravel.

This is exactly how I look and feel when a noisy truck screams by.

The lone kit kept its eye on me all the time I was photographing them.

Watch out!!!!

I love the negative spaces in the image below. Look at the shape of the spaces between the legs and the gravel. Beautiful.

What a gift! And, all it took was to leave the house at a different time.
