The Season is Moving On

Changes are happening in the gardens as well as in how we garden.
It looks like the mini-rain we had earlier this week was enough to excite some mushrooms into taking a chance at growing.

We have been switching to growing more pollinator-friendly native plants and paying attention to which flowers bees love. They are crazy about cosmos. This little guy's pollen sacs were almost as big as he was.

It took a few years for New York Ironweed to grow to its potential from seed. But, the wait was worth it.

It towers over the surrounding perennials.

The light stayed good until around 10 this morning. I think the wildfire smoke may have something to do with that. Sadly, the white coneflowers are not pretty enough to put in our bouquets. They have been eaten by Japanese beetles and they have suffered in the drought. I have not watered them this summer. But, their seedheads will look cool in fall bouquets.

And, speaking of giving away - another change this year. I am going to give away all of these dahlias. We will be changing our garden's focus next year, closing down some areas and changing what we plant in others. These dahlias will be needing a new home.

If you want some, please message me and I will put your name on the stalk of a plant and I will contact you in the fall when I dig them up.

Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
