In the spring on 2023, I went whole hog and ordered a 10 gram package of Mesclun Salad Mix seeds. It doesn't sound like a lot compared to a packet of seeds, but it is. We did 6 sucession plantings of mesclun last year, ate from it ourselves and gave 343 bags of Mesclun Salad Mix to the food bank. On March 3 of this year, we planted this tray. Not sure if I've used half of the package yet. It is well worth the extra few dollars to buy seeds in larger quantities if you are going to use them.

Another experiment was to plant them in smaller pods. This tray has 128 tiny pods. Today was the day to give them a bigger home.

Ted's shop is perfect for transplanting seedlings. A little bit of warmth, lots of light and nice music.

3 trays of 48 pods = 144 seedlings. Hmmmm..... what to do with the remaining plants? Because the seeds are so cheap and my labour is even cheaper, I took a leap of faith and.....

..... transplanted a bunch in the greenhouse.

We'll see how this goes. We don't plan to add heat, so they will need to live up to their reputation as cold weather crops. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

“Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.”

Robert Louis Stevenson
