Two Ferry Day

We have had two dreams lately.

  1. Take a ferry through icy waters before they disappear.

  2. Go back to Amherst Island.

Yesterday, those two dreams came true.

Ferry #1 = Glenora. There were quite a few duck-like birds in the frigid water....

... and near the Adolphustown side, this raptor was eating its breakfast on the ice. Maybe someone will identify it for me. Is it a juvenile Bald Eagle?

The Amherst Island ferry is much larger than the Glenora one....

.... but its channel was no where near as ice-free.

Today's sponsor is the sound of the ferry ploughing through the icy water. Pretty noisy, hey?

The beauty of visiting Amherst Island in the winter is that there are very few humans around. We could drive v-e-r-y-s-l-o-w-l-y.

I love, love, love pictures of cows on the crest of a hill.

Deer were out inspecting summer homes.....

... as wind turbines provided some background motion.

There are a couple of sheep farms on the island. It was breakfast time when we drove by this one.

Yum!

As we rounded the south side of the island, we saw many flocks of ducks in the lake and the odd swan here and there. I think swans got the short end of the stick when eating methods were handed out.

Our dreams came true in unexpected ways. There was even more ice on the south side of the island. Isn't that a beautiful blue?

And, one of us found a memento to take home. The icing on the cake of the day.

“Twenty years from now

you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do

than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines.

Sail away from the safe harbor.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore.

Dream.

Discover.”

Thank you so much for sharing this experience. I have missed being physically unable to get out and experience life for way too long. Your ferry experience gives me hope that I might actually be able to get out there too.
