Winter is Leaving Us

We have never explored Harris Road. It's a short dead-end road north of Port Hope and for this morning's walk, it was the perfect length for Ted. Just under 2 km, uphill all the way to the end and blissfully, downhill back to the car.
More than the road is at a dead end. It looks like this barn has seen better days....

.... as was the same for this barn at the end of the road. Although, it looks like the owner has taken the time to re-point the cut granite foundation stones. Maybe they have plans for it yet. What once were profitable farms are now a crumbling shadow of their former selves.
There were still huge snowdrifts in this area. And water running in the ditches.

Meandering our way down to Port Hope, the apple orchards looked like they had been spared damage by animals this winter. That must be a huge relief for the apple farmers. And, look at that blanket of snow! There will still be a lot of run-off this week.

Some fields with poor drainage have become mirrors.

The closer we got to the lake, the less snow there was.

And, at the bottom of the Ganaraska River, ice chunks staged themselves before being swept into the lake.

Let's hope it all ends well.
