The narrowboat that we are staying on is 57' long and almost 7' wide. At the back of the boat is a tiny room - so small that I have to bend my wrists to fit if I extend my arms out to each wall. Maybe 5 1/2' square? To access the room, you need to open two wooden doors that latch together for security. On a less rainy and less windy day you could open the plastic windows and be completely in nature. This evening, we chose to have some comfort and kept the windows closed. Our candles thanked us for being considerate.

Joel found a string of old-fashioned light bulbs hanging in one corner. Their dim yellow light added to the charm of the space. The table was large enough to hold two dinner plates and two glasses of water. There was a bench on each side of the table with comfortable and colourful pillows on it. We had had our wine earlier. Priorities. Thank goodness. There would have been no room for either the water or the wine.

In the late afternoon, Joel walked over to the nearest Marks & Spencer food court and found some dinner for us. When I woke up from my nap, he was returning with a slow-cooked lamb curry, a potato gratin dish, and a salad with fresh peas, bean seeds and avocado. All we needed to do was heat them up.

It took us a while to figure out the gas stove to heat up the two main dishes. The boat has its quirks, but we are catching on quickly. Dinner happened when it happened.

Dishes are done and rain is making interesting notes as it falls on various parts of the roof. The wind comes and goes. And, we are safe inside. I think we made good future memories today.
