Well, it's about time! Today was the day for Castleton's 9th annual Santa Claus Pet Parade. It's been on my radar for a few years, and today we found our winter coats, bundled up and made our way over to Castleton.

I love this image. It's mysterious.

Aha! That's better.

They came from every direction. Proud dogs...

ree

.... and humble ones.

ree

And, once they got organized, who led the way? The sheep....

ree

.... and goats!

ree

Everyone was raring to go. These guys were holding back so the paraders ahead of them could spread out a bit. This picture reminds me of a Norman Rockwell painting. You could write a story about each one of these pets and their owners.

ree

Some owners went all out in their event-appropriate fashion choices.

ree

Dogs came in all shapes and sizes.....

ree

.... even ones that looked a little awkward.

ree

We were wondering if there would be any dog fights, but of the dozens and dozens of dogs in the parade, none of them were unruly. Some were very chill and some, very enthusiastic.

ree

And, the odd one who just couldn't wait.

ree

Some looked a bit embarrassed at their owner's choice of outfit.....

ree

... and one got to ride in a stroller.

ree

Apparently, these horses usually lead the parade. But this year, they....

ree

.... and their larger counterparts....

ree

..... had the honours of bringing up the rear with the precious cargo.

ree

The parade circled around the village and there was free hot chocolate at the end for whoever wanted some. What an impressive parade! And, that the population of Castleton is 356, makes it even more impressive.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
