Today was the day hundreds of local folks were waiting for. The Coldest Night of the Year. In our little town of Port Hope, folks were walking in support of Green Wood Coalition. We met in St. Paul's Presbyterian church, signed in, heard who were the winning teams and the winning individual fund raisers and then headed out.
The sidewalks were still a bit slushy and slippery.
I love how entire families joined in to raise funds to help hungry, hurting and homeless folks in our little towns.

I love how two community-minded restaurants stepped out into the cold to hand out free hot chocolate and water. This one was "The Pulse", a tasty new addition to the local scene. The other was the inimitable Queenie's.

There was a 2 km walk and a 5 km one. We chose the shorter one.

Passing cars and trucks honked to cheer us on.

Hikers like Jason posed along the way.

Words of love in store windows affirmed what we were doing......

..... and by the time we returned to the church, it was getting dark. We were thankful that for most of us, sleeping outside is something we aren't forced to do. It's cold out there!

Chili from restaurants in both of our little towns and from some caring churches lined the tables and boxes of Happenstance cookies were enjoyed by all.

Tonight, Green Wood Coalition reached 113% of its goal: $56,658.00! Good job, everyone!
