Crop Tour - Eastern Ontario

For crop tours in areas new to us, we like to take a paper map that only shows the main roads and towns. We appreciate having to figure out the secondary roads by ourselves. No Google maps for us. That way, chance is in charge, not us. Chance is much more interesting than we are.

We headed east from where we are staying: Glen Walter, probably considered a suburb of Cornwall. The land going east is very flat - this is where the historic Lake Champlain lay. And, it is very fertile. Look at that corn crop.

Ted had roughly drawn a loop in the general area where he hoped to drive today. It was my job to navigate. You never know what will be presented to you. Today, we stumbled upon a sign on the side of the road saying, Dutch Touch Groceries - business hours Thursday and Friday......

It was meant to be. It's Friday. Some almond cookies and tongue sausage made their way into the truck.

There are farmers and then there are farmers who take farming to a whole new level. Ted figured the hardwood forest that seemed to be completely surrounded by a 4' dry stone wall was between 40 and 50 acres!

We had to find out who these folks are. Wanna Make It Farm. Un believable. A dry stone wall was also being constructed around the farm headquarters.

Across the road a very heathy wheat harvest was happening today.

So bountiful.

And, back on the farm a solar panel covered shed was looking impressive.

It's handy when you have some useful equipment.
