The sky was white this morning. It looks like I've used Photoshop to cut out this building. Not true. Just a white sky and a white background. And the odd snowflake drifting down.
Don't you love how recent architects have melded new and old together in this building? Ted..... of course he did...... had to bring to my attention that the load of the new building needed to be supported.
Our destination this morning was the Crave Coffee House on Princess St. where Ted practised balancing his lunch on a worker's head.
Surprise of the day: we resisted the baking. The coffee house was full of students working on whatever students work on. This place goes overboard to accommodate them. We wondered at the turnover of table space and the business's bottom line? But, while we were there ready made meals flew off the shelves, taken home by walk-in customers. They are probably doing just fine.
Our next stop was to visit Cooke's. Since 1865 Cooke's has been providing treats for anyone who walks in the door. And, walk in the door we did.
Isn't their window the poster-child of indecision? It's Christmas. No, it's winter. No, no, no....it's St. Patrick's Day.
It has been 5 or 10 years since we last visited Cooke's. Not too much has changed. If you've lasted for over 150 years, not changing might be your strength.
We were hoping to find a sweet treat to go with our lunch. It was so difficult to make up our minds.
Whimsical characters looked down on us, nodding their heads and suggesting that maybe we should get cheese instead of sweets. We did make up our minds. You'll see the result soon.
One the way home, we walked by the market area. The ice is still in. It looks to me like the two middle kids are having a discussion about whether or not to embrace the season.
We had a two-fold reason for taking this way home. One was that we had not taken this route yet and it's just wrong to take the same route twice. The other reason was to look for a restaurant for the next time we visit Kingston. We have train seats booked for May to continue celebrating the 70 mark with a dear friend who is also turning 70 and her spouse. Ted is wondering if they would like this one?
I was a little concerned about Ted's welfare as I took the picture. The gentleman in the back was loudly, so very loudly responding to childhood trauma. It was clear that he'd had a horrible life.
And, this one presented itself to us. What do you think, Barb & Al? The name?
Getting nearer to "home" yesterday's theme of interesting brick designs was continued.
And, here you have it: what we bought at Cooke's! Our future seems more and more like a mystery these days, so this bag seemed to fit perfectly. Nothing like a little added excitement to what's for dessert?
That Christmas feeling in March. Embracing the Season and extending it. Thank you Cooke's. We sampled all of them. Nice choices.
“In our twenties, when there is still so much time ahead of us, time that seems ample for a hundred indecisions,
for a hundred visions and revisions—
we draw a card,
and we must decide right then and there
whether to keep that card and discard the next,
or discard the first card and keep the second.
And before we know it,
the deck has been played out
and the decisions we have just made
will shape our lives for decades to come.”
