I've been waiting to pre-hike a new route for a month or so. Today was the day and I was fortunate to be accompanied by two fellow PRHC hikers. It's always helpful to have safety input from fellow hike leaders. And, it's just fun to be with them.
This hike starts just south of Vernonville, on King Road. They have king-sized trees on King Road.
If this post were to be sponsored by a sound, it would be the sound of running water. Many of the properties along this route are fenced and some heavily treed. There are streams and ponds in abundance in this part of the county. It was difficult at times to see where the sound of falling water was coming from.
Just in case you think we are not in Canada......
.... and why would anyone need such a high rail fence?
There is nothing so lovely as a dry stone wall.
This one went on and on and the gardens were beautiful.
Who knows where it leads? It's a mystery.
Every so often we caught a glimpse of what was behind the fences and walls and gates.
Once we turned on to Pipeline Road, there were a couple of hills. Nothing too serious.
I love the slowness of hiking. You see things that you'd never see when biking or driving. And, you have time to think about what you are seeing. And wonder. Like, "I wonder why they mow so much lawn?" It seems to be a thing in this part of the county. Huge, huge lawns.
And gates. Maybe they don't want intruders to walk on their lawns.
This is an easy+ hike of 6.1 km. In early September, I'll be leading this one and will offer a 3 km add-on of a visit to From Scratch Farm. We'll tour around their gardens and enjoy their flower labyrinth and maybe pick up some freshly baked pies.
And, there won't be any lawns, or fences or gates there.
Just fun and wonderful food.
Here's the map.

the next man immediately needs to know what's on the other side?”
