On yesterday's adventure we set out with little containers of birdseed in our pockets. Ted was hoping to introduce our new adventure buddy to the fun of having chickadees eat out of your hand. Lemoine Point Conservation Area has a reputation of being a great place to feed birds.
We weren't the only ones enjoying the beauty of the day.
Birds can be fleeting objects to photograph. Like a puff of light.
Yesterday was a PA day. It took some convincing to get Charlotte to join us. Taking along a new flashlight from Grandpa might have been the deciding factor. Every possible place where other walkers could have sprinkled birdseed was examined. There was a lot of birdseed on stumps and rocks at the beginning of the trail. And, not many hungry birds.
So, when you can't find birds, what do you do? You find erratics. And you climb on them, or maybe they climb on you.
A km or so into the forest, and the birds were a little hungrier.
Pauses were taken. By some.
Three hands ..... one bird ... v-e-r-r-r-r-y near. Can you see it? Follow where Lindsey's camera is pointing.
The chickadee has landed!
None of us had ever seen this type of burdock or thistle?
Three hands - one landing.
And another one.
Doggone! Still none on Charlotte's hand. She seems a bit perturbed.
Finally!
Persistence does pay off. In the end, Charlotte counted 46 tiny landings on her hand.
So, we were looking for birds, but sometimes when you look for one thing you find another. Like this weathered barn and lumpy field.
And this half-naked runner.
But neither of them compared to the fun of tiny feet alighting on your little finger.
46 landings!
Enough to tucker you out.
