Cutting a Christmas tree is so much nicer when there is snow on the ground. Even though the sky was dismal, there was a mood of excitement at Barrett's Christmas Tree Farm this afternoon.
Isn't that a nice stack of wood?
Ted has a new theory: when he wears his old clothes to town, people are more friendly to him. Let's see how this goes.
These guys look friendly.
So, no sooner did we pick up our saw and step out, we were met by the owner of Barrett's Christmas Tree Farm. In our conversation, Ted let her know that we used to be pig farmers. Her knee-jerk response was to drag us over to see a pot-belly pig and for us to give our opinion as to its weight.
We learned that Barretts get their seedlings from a grower near Cookshire-Eaton in Quebec where we holidayed this summer.
So, what do you think it weighs? We thought 150 lbs.
And, how about Ted's theory? I think it might be true.
We learned that Fraser Firs don't like the heavy soil in this part of the county. Canaan Firs are the next best thing. We set out looking for the perfect Canaan Fir.
There were some props along the way for family photos.
It didn't take long to find the perfect slim tree for our little living room.
One last look at the hills of trees....
.... and a smile when seeing the "toilette",....
.... and it was time to get that baby in water.
Perfect.
The scent is heavenly, the fire is burning brightly....
.... and our moose and other woodland creatures seem to be thrilled that it's starting to look like Christmas. They were wondering.
We'll close with a word from Pooh:
“You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you.
You have to go to them sometimes.”
A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
.... and maybe wear old clothes.
