What it takes to bring 82 lbs. of fresh veggies, herbs and flowers to Fare Share food bank before their 9 a.m. opening.
Hmmm..... let me see....
Wake up with the sun and be in the garden at 5:30.
Fifteen basins of mixed salad greens.
A lovely bunch of extra flowers from my gardening buddy's front yard waiting to be mixed together with ones from our gardens.
Lettuces in the garden doing well after yesterday's rains.
Straw spread before the rain kept these greens relatively clean.
Gardening buddy #2 covering her hospital work clothes so she can be clean for her 8 a.m. shift.
Twelve bunches of hosta leaves, pink phlox, zinnias, snapdragons & parsley seedheads.... all seen through the splattered camera lens.
Non-strawed greens needing to be sprayed. I have a love-hate relationship with rain. It loves to splatter soil over lettuce leaves. The krinklier the leaf, the more it loves to splatter it.
Gardening buddy #1 rushing to be done so she can hike 10 km in the forest and complete an arms' length list of meetings and work today.
Handy shared crates from the Food Bank. And Ted - picking raspberries, beets and radishes, packing the truck, and delivering the produce.
“If you love what you do and are willing to do what it takes,
it's within your reach.
And it'll be worth every minute you spend alone at night,
thinking and thinking about what it is you want to design or build.
It'll be worth it,
I promise.”
