A Dog Day

Twenty hikers came out for the almost 9 km hike over hill and dale just north of our house this morning. Because we really were going over hill and dale, we sometimes stopped to catch our breaths, take off a jacket or fleece, and to pet random dogs. Not sure I've ever experienced such a warm November 5.

That was this morning. This afternoon, Ted wanted to get out and enjoy the weather. We had heard that some hiking buddies were working on a new footbridge over the Ganaraska River. Time to check out Sylvan Glen conservation area and see how far they got.

How wonderful is it that the family who owns this beautiful property allows the public to walk on its trails freely? And, this month's bonus: a family member has installed a photo show of some of the dogs who walk those same trails.

"Ganaraska Dogs."

They are strategically placed to fit in with the surrounding nature.

There's my hiking buddy!

We met this dog and its owner next to a photo of him/herself.

What a project! It looks like they may have CARRIED the stones in from the road. Two older bridges on the property are being undermined by the river.

Even though it felt like summer, signs of the end of fall were everywhere.

No matter what season, this corner of the Ganny always looks so lovely. The owner of the white dog said that they'd seen otters in the river recently. We've seen a beaver here before, but never otters.

This year, a flag was installed.

We'll end with my favourite dog of the day. I can read its lips.

"Play with me!"

“Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend.

Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.”
