Cannibalism & a Snake

Writer's picture: Hilda Van NettenHilda Van Netten

This evening's views from the ponds might be a bit disturbing for some. Our sponsor? The harsh realities of life.

We counted around 10 or 12 frogs in both ponds. The most we've seen all summer. Many of the tadpoles we've been watching all year must have turned into frogs in recent days.

I have no idea how or why those bubbles are formed, but they do make an interesting picture.

Just after I took the above photo, there was some ruckus in the water and we could see that the frog had something white in its mouth. I tip-toed around to get a closer look and.... hmmm.... one less frog. "I can't believe I just ate my brother."

Let's give our eyes a break for a moment.

And, another. Cleanse our minds from the cannibalism and pretend that everything is lovely around every pond in the world. Beauty and harmony everywhere.

This little guy is buying into that notion.

Might not be his best decision.

I could have stayed and witnessed a snake finding its dinner, but couldn't bear to look at it. These mushrooms will close out tonight's post.

Happy little mushrooms.
