Eagleson Rd. Pre-Hike

I've decided to switch hike routes for Saturday's hike. I'd planned on introducing the club to the lovely Kinglet trail in the Northumberland Forest. Tomorrow's forecast of 10-15 mm rain, followed by a -6°C nighttime temperature might not make for a fun hiking experience there. We'll save that hike for a better day.

Instead, we will be hiking one of my favourite easy routes on Saturday: Eagleson Road>Beavermeadow>Fisher>Edgar Benson Rd. 6.1 km.

The snow is still clean and even on the hills.

We will pass a couple of trickling brooks. Spring is coming. They may have more than a trickle on Saturday.

There were still spots where the snowbanks were shoulder-height.

A snowmobile trail crosses our route in two spots. Snowmobilers must be smiling this winter. It's been a good year for them.

From smiling snowmobilers to unsmiling snowmen and ladies. Maybe they know that the rain is coming.

The sky darkened a little as I made my way north on Fisher Road.

There is a quiet beauty at this time of the year.

Fisher Road is very peaceful too. I was half-way up that road when it felt like a flock of birds were trying to get my attention. Bluebirds!!!!!

They flitted from branch to branch, not at all scared of me. The most bluebirds I've ever seen in one spot - around 30 of them. Can you see 3 of them up in these trees?

The sky was kind enough to darken even more.

I love how the combine's tracks show white in the soybean field in the distance. A pattern following the contours of the hills.

Let's hope we don't leave muddy tracks on Saturday. If anything, it will be an adventure!
