Hills

“Morning will come, it has no choice.”

Marty Rubin

When a good friend wants to walk, that's a gift you can't ignore. Even if you know that the hike will involve hills.

There was mist in the distance this morning.

Hills. This post is sponsored by them.

Can you see all three layers of silhouetted hills? Somewhat clear > somewhat hazy > very hazy.

Sort of like life. Sort of like "the future".

It's always nice to have a reason to stop when hiking steep hills on a warm and humid day.

Isn't that little calf on the left beautiful?

The cattle were disinterested in us. Maybe they were feeling the humidity too. When we saw this guy we had no desire to climb over the fence.

Signs in these hills do not lie. And, there was the balancing upward hill, equally as steep, a few km later.

Steep hills don't go on forever. They are just a bit more memorable than the flat places. We probably remember the steep ones disproportionately more.

Every hike has its gifts. Surprises along the way.

And, a river ran through this one, much like it has done for centuries. It has cut its pathway into the hills. Over time. Patiently.

I've used this quote before, but I don't think you can get too much of Paulo Coelho's insights. It's not like eating ice cream.

“When we least expect it,

life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change;

at such a moment,

there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened

or in saying that we are not yet ready.

The challenge will not wait.

Life does not look back.

A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”

Paulo Coelho
