Late November ☀️ Hike

Writer's picture: Hilda Van NettenHilda Van Netten

“So many people walk around with a meaningless life.

They seem half-asleep,

even when they're busy doing things they think are important.

This is because they're chasing the wrong things.

The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others,

devote yourself to your community around you,

and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.”

Mitch Albom

Well, no one was half-asleep on this morning's hike.

19 ambitious souls met me at the Knoxville Cemetery, north of Port hope for a short 5.7 km, hilly hike.

We were rewarded by a views of distant clouds over Rice Lake.....

.... and a far-off glimpse of Lake Ontario to the south.

We had lots of chances to stop and chat. 5 hills meant 5 stops. No one left behind.

Snack and drink stop and another opportunity to visit. And the warm November sun started to cast some nice shadows.

Heading south on the unmaintained Knoxville road, many hikers commented how wonderful it felt to feel the sun warming their face.

And, turning around... who knows what these guys were talking about.

I am thankful for this bunch of adventurers. Many have become good friends. And, as hike leader, I was very thankful that so many wore bright clothing.

It's hunting season.
