Lilac Tour? Crop Tour.

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth

find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.

There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature --

the assurance that dawn comes after night,

and spring after winter.”

Rachel Carson

Repeated refrains of nature.... and random events. I hope these orchards were not affected by last night's frost. How heartbreaking to have to wait an entire year to try again.

Bees have been trucked in to help with pollination. Let's hope they will be successful at their job.

This morning, we left home early to see if we could catch the apple blossoms around Brighton and the lilacs in Prince Edward County - in full bloom. Lilacs don't wait.

No lilacs here.

Aha!

We'd picked up a grocery store lunch in Brighton: a grainy baguette, some brie and Camembert cheeses, some paté and on the healthier side of the equation: mandarin oranges, blueberries and Riviera Raspberry & Black Currant Coconut milk yoghurt. I love grocery store picnics. I love that you can get 3 meals for the price of one in a restaurant. I love eating Riviera yoghurts with a little spoon, clinking on the tiny glass jar.

Finishing with unhealthy food: under the category "You Only Live Once" - 7 layer bars. We shared one while looking at these beautiful lilacs.

I think we chose a good day. Aren't they stunning?

You can almost smell them, can't you?

You never know what you'll come across when you follow your nose: Black Welsh Mountain Sheep.

I love how these lilacs have found a pretty spot to live between the field and forest.

We knew that apple trees and lilac bushes would be blooming, but forgot about canola. There is a lot of canola growing around Wellington. It smelled heavenly when I got out of the car to take some pictures.

Ted figures there may be 1,000 acres of canola just north of Wellington.

One thousand acres and one red-winged blackbird.

It was a good crop tour.
