I am not into showing my paintings in art shows and galleries. Mostly painting for myself now, plus the odd commission. And, when I get sick of looking at a painting, I cut it up and collaborate with my grandkids making cards for friends. Port Hope folks will recognize this as a house on Pine Street - west side.
Occasionally, I will enter a painting in an online competition. The Art of Watercolour magazine is, IMHO, the most useful watercolour magazine. It comes from France and covers watercolour artists around the world. I've learned a lot from their how-to articles and have been inspired by fellow watercolorists around the world. It also comes in handy when teaching. I've ripped out many-a page for my student artists to use as reference.
In each issue there is a new contest open to any artist in the world. This issue's contest was "Winter Scene". Well, wouldn't you know it, I had just painted a winter scene last year, a commission for a former student. Good one to submit. Below is that painting.
When all of the submissions were online, I asked friends and family to vote - for mine. 🥴
You did!!! Thank you! And, it looks like a lot of other people voted too. I don't have that many friends!
Now I know what it takes to be second best. Some ability, some luck and some friends.
Thanks so much for your vote.
